Things to Consider When Selecting Shower Tiles

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you are remodeling your bathroom, one of the crucial elements to consider would be tiling. A mistake some homeowners make is simply buying tiles in bulk then expecting the contractors to install them in the bathroom. Although this may create a uniform appearance in your bathroom, the tiles may not be functional in the different areas of your bathroom. Here are some of the things to keep in mind when you are selecting shower tiles.

Consider the shape of the shower

If you have a conventional rectangular or square shower space, then you could opt to purchase tiles in one uniform size, as they will be easy to install. On the other hand, if the shape of your shower is curved, then you would have to consider the installation of the tiles. Smaller tiles are much better suited to curved walls and corners, as they can fit better than regular sized tiles. If you do not buy small ties, you will find that your contractors will have to reshape the tiles you have purchased. This will incur additional labour costs, as it will prolong the tiling process. As such, it is always best to consider the shape of your shower when consulting with your contractors on which tiles to purchase.

Consider the traction of the tiles

Another thing to consider when purchasing tiles would be the traction they provide in your bathroom. This is especially crucial with floor tiles. Rather than opting for smooth tiles that may look aesthetically appealing, opt for textured tiles such as natural stone tiles. These tiles tend to be slip-resistant, hence decreasing the chances of accidents occurring in the bathroom.

Consider the porosity of the tiles

Typically, homeowners will gravitate toward ceramic or porcelain tiles for their shower, as they are an aesthetically appealing option. However, these types of tiles are made from natural materials. As such, they have a propensity to absorb water over time. If you are set on using these types of tiles for your shower, it is essential to ensure they are glazed beforehand. The glazing not only prevents the tiles from absorbing water, but it also protects them from superficial damage such as scratches or staining. Glazed tiles are also easier to clean since they will not absorb dirt every single time that you take a shower. This make them a convenient option for homeowners who would like a low maintenance option.

How I Constructed My New Home

Hello and welcome to my construction blog. My name is David and I would like to tell you about the process of designing and building a new home from the ground up. I had always dreamed of building my own home and last year, that dream became a reality. I had been saving money for many years so I could afford to buy the materials and employ the contractors needed to construct my home. I learnt so much during the process, I decided to start this blog. It was a wonderful day when the final piece of my home was put into place and I am now very happy.
